"Absolutely wonderful!"
Jane Austen's House
West-Country based voice and piano partnership Penelope Appleyard and Jonathan Delbridge perform unique and entertaining recital programmes on historical themes, aiming to celebrate the creativity of domestic music and bring it out of the drawing room and to new audiences!

Frequently to be found in period costume, chauffeuring 209 year old Broadwood square piano Lady Catherine around the UK in a Skoda estate, Penelope and Jonathan are busy touring their semi-theatrical programmes 'Sense & Musicality', 'A Musical Kind of Little Wilderness' and 'Jane Austen's Christmas Gaiety'.

With research and original scripts by Penny, they are delighted to be appearing in festivals, concert series and at historic sites nationwide. They have already given sold out performances at the Newbury Spring Festival and Jane Austen's House and filled Bath Abbey for their debut at the Jane Austen Festival. They have been featured in articles for Continuo Connect and Interlude HK, and appeared on BBC Radio3's Breakfast Show and Words & Music. They have also presented on the subject of performing this repertoire for online lecture series Jane Austen and Co.
Penelope commissioned 'Ode to Pity', a rare song setting of an Austen poem by composer Donna McKevitt, written especially for 'Sense & Musicality'. This was Gramophone's 'Video of the Day' on it's release day and has appeared in Spotify's New Classical Releases playlist - possibly the first time a square piano has appeared there!
